Free support classes for intermediate and baccalaureate candidates during the winter break

The Ministry of National Education issued new instructions to administrative officials in the sector, requiring them to prepare to receive middle and high school students in support classes during the winter vacation scheduled to begin on the eighteenth of this month.

According to an instruction from the Ministry of National Education, this initiative aims to provide free educational support to students who will take the intermediate and baccalaureate certificate exams, as educational institutions will open their doors in the first week of the holiday to organize intensive study classes.

According to the directives issued by the Ministry’s Education Directorate, the program will include several types of educational activities, including lessons led by professors, group review sessions, in addition to study periods under educational supervision.

The Ministry stressed that participation in these programs remains completely optional and no student may be forced to attend, and that all services provided will be free of charge. Directors of educational institutions must perform several tasks to make this process a success, most notably preparing clear timetables for classes and communicating effectively with the teaching staff to make them aware of the importance of the educational project.

Administrative officials must also inform parents of all details related to the program and its organization, and provide the appropriate environment to ensure that lessons are conducted in good conditions, while submitting periodic statistics on the extent of turnout and participation.

In a separate context, the Ministry revealed a new strategy to confront the problems faced by some primary school students in reading skills, noting that neglecting this issue at this early stage could lead to negative consequences on the academic, psychological and social levels.

The remedial plan developed by the General Inspectorate of National Education includes flexible tools and auxiliary educational resources that have been field-tested and proven effective, which prompted the Ministry to adopt and implement it on a large scale.

The program focuses on addressing weaknesses in reading performance, especially with regard to recognizing letters and converting them into sounds, in addition to the correct pronunciation of words and sentences, taking into account the correct phonetic outputs and short and long movements.

This plan includes a set of simplified educational tools on which inspectors and teachers receive special training during the current school year, starting with the initial assessment to detect difficulties, then applying appropriate therapeutic methods, while monitoring the development of each student individually, all the way to the final evaluation.

The Ministry required school principals to set a specific time schedule not to exceed three classes per week, with these sessions being held outside official working hours and after obtaining the approval of the local education directorate.

School teachers participate in framing these classes under the supervision of subject inspectors, with school administrations required to submit regular reports on the progress of students benefiting from the program to the guardian authorities.
