February 22: The beginning of a new era of sovereignty and awareness

On Sunday, Algerians commemorated the seventh anniversary of the blessed popular movement that made an exception since the beginning of Friday, February 22, 2019, embodying the moment when the people consciously declared the beginning of a new era of sovereignty and awareness, thanks to a sincere political will that made the authentic blessed popular movement a constitutional reference and a new national culture.

On Sunday, the Ministry of National Defense recalled the national anniversary of February 22, which represents an eternal symbol of “brotherhood and cohesion between the people and their army for the sake of democracy.” The Ministry affirmed, in an official statement, that this day embodies the historical cohesion between the Algerian people and their armed forces, during which the people and the army demonstrated a common ability to protect national gains and promote the values ​​of democracy.

This day is an opportunity to remember the role of the People’s National Army in preserving national sovereignty and maintaining the country’s stability in the most difficult circumstances.

The celebration of February 22 comes after the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced on February 19, 2020, the designation of this day as an annual national day, to commemorate the historic gift of the Algerian people and their solidarity with their army in the process of protecting democracy and strengthening national unity.

The statement of the Presidency of the Republic stated that February 22 will constitute an annual occasion to affirm the values ​​of solidarity, national unity, and cohesion among all components of Algerian society, and to appreciate the sacrifices made by the people and the army alike in order to build a strong and stable democratic state.

The Ministry of Defense added that celebrating this day also aims to instill the values ​​of citizenship and national responsibility in the younger generations, and to enhance awareness of the importance of national history and the status of the army as a basic pillar of protecting democracy.

For its part, the National Construction Movement recalled the memory of the authentic, blessed popular movement. It also said that what our country is reaping today from an effective diplomatic presence and regional weight is the fruit of the people’s cohesion with their People’s National Army and with the institutions of their state, which embodied national unity in a new image that thwarted all the plans whose owners dreamed of harming Algeria’s stability or penetrating its sovereignty, highlighting that today’s transition from the “change movement” to the “development movement” is increasingly embodied in Strengthening economic sovereignty, and in the positive indicators that put Algeria on the path to renaissance and victory.

The movement renewed its thanks to the President of the Republic, whose speeches do not miss this anniversary, as he affirms on every occasion that: It is the authentic, blessed movement that saved the national state from collapse and restored its prestige, evoking those immortal images of faith and solidarity when the movement coincided with the blessed month of Ramadan. Iftar tables in the squares were a symbol of brotherhood and a support for the stationed members of our People’s National Army and security forces, in a scene that dazzled the world with the extent of the sophistication and cohesion of this people.

The movement called on all national forces and the conscious masses of our people to be more vigilant and close ranks behind the institutions of our state, in order to preserve the gains and loyalty to the era of the martyrs, so that we may continue together the process of building a supportive, fearsome, and prosperous Algeria.

In this context, and on the occasion of the National Day of Cohesion between the Army and its People, the Youth House of Khamis El Khechna in Boumerdes Province organized, on Saturday, a special activity on the occasion, which included: drawing and coloring workshops, various recreational games that created an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm that witnessed great interaction from those involved, and a mini-exhibition that highlighted the symbolism of this day and its national dimensions in consolidating the values ​​of belonging and loyalty.

The activity represented an opportunity to enhance national awareness among young men and women, and to consolidate the spirit of citizenship and pride in belonging to the homeland, in an atmosphere characterized by vitality and positive interaction.
