FAO adopts a resolution defending the privacy of Algerian dates – New Algeria

Within the framework of the work of the forty-eighth session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, Held at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Rome during the period from 10 to 14 November 2025, the final version of the Codex Alimentarius standard for fresh dates was approved.
This decision represented the culmination of Algeria’s efforts to defend the characteristics of Algerian dates and highlight their advantages within international expert committees.
Algeria participated in preparing this file through a joint ministerial team that includes experts from the Ministry of Internal Trade and National Market Control, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The Algerian team provided precise technical and scientific contributions during the various sessions and discussions, which enabled the qualitative characteristics of Algerian dates, especially Deglet Nour dates, to be included within the approved international standards.
The adoption of this international standard represents a strategic gain that will enhance the access of Algerian dates to foreign markets, support their competitiveness, and consolidate international recognition of the quality of the national product.
