During the period from December 16 to December 22, 2025, the security services of the People’s National Army in the Second Military Region were able to dismantle a dangerous criminal network active in western Algeria, numbering nine smugglers.
The Ministry of National Defense said in a statement: “In continuation of the qualitative operations carried out by units of the People’s National Army in the field of combating transnational organized crime and illicit trafficking in narcotics and psychotropic substances, and as a result of the optimal exploitation of information, the security services of the People’s National Army in the Second Military Region were able, during the period extending from December 16 to December 22, 2025, to dismantle a dangerous criminal network active in western Algeria, numbering nine (09) smugglers.”
The statement added that in the same context, a sum of money was seized in the national currency from criminal proceeds, estimated at: 13,951,500 DZD, five (05) tourist cars, two (02) semi-trailer trucks, (517,400) psychotropic substances of the type “Ecstasy,” and a group of mobile phones.
The Ministry of Defense concluded its statement by saying, “This qualitative operation came to confirm once again the readiness and vigilance of the units of the People’s National Army with all its components to confront such criminal operations and limit the spread of the drug scourge in society.”
During the period from 10 to 16 December 2025, the detachments of the People’s National Army arrested (10) members of support for terrorist groups, during separate operations across the national territory. They also arrested (38) drug dealers and thwarted attempts to bring (4) quintals and (92) kilograms of processed kif across the border with Morocco.
Detachments of the People’s National Army also arrested (306) people and seized (53) vehicles, (336) electric generators, (173) pressure hammers, and (3) metal detectors, in addition to quantities of a mixture of gold ore, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold prospecting operations.
Thirteen other people were also arrested, and two (2) Kalashnikov machine guns, one (1) automatic pistol, (9) hunting rifles, and (62,245) liters of fuel were seized, in addition to (48) quintals of tobacco and (19) tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation, during separate operations.
