Digital transformation is an irreversible strategic national choice

The Minister of the Interior, Local Communities and Transport, Al-Saeed Saeed, said that digital transformation is a strategic and irreversible national choice, and that it is not limited to the digitization of documents, but rather a profound structural and cultural transformation in the management of public facilities, in implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic.

In his intervention during the opening of the national meeting on innovation and digital transformation organized by the Mediator of the Republic, on Monday, Saoud highlighted that innovation and digital transformation constitute a basic foundation for building a modern, effective, transparent administration that is close to the citizen, and the generalization of electronic services at the municipal and state levels, especially in the civil status, biometric identification card, driver’s licenses and biometric passports, with the adoption of the national identification number as the sole identifier that allows linking databases and enhancing the accuracy of information.

The Minister stressed the need to develop digital services with the aim of reducing file processing times, reducing pressure on windows, reducing citizen movements and improving the quality of public service, in addition to unifying national databases and linking them to secure networks to facilitate the exchange of information between administrations.

He also said that digital transformation is an effective tool for fighting bureaucracy and reducing illegal practices, and that the success of the digitization process is linked to qualifying the human resource, updating legal texts, protecting personal data, and establishing a culture of innovation within the administration.

The Minister of Interior stressed the need to involve the citizen as a fundamental focus in designing digital services, with the sector’s commitment to continuing to modernize public facilities according to an integrated vision based on generalizing digitization, improving the legal framework, strengthening partnership, and consolidating transparency and accountability.
