Derbal calls for the inclusion of modern technologies in water filtration plants

The Minister of Irrigation, Taha Darbal, called on Saturday, from Batna, for the inclusion of modern technologies, especially “tertiary water treatment,” in all projects related to the completion of used water filtration plants.
The minister said, while receiving explanations with the head of the local executive body, Riyad bin Ahmed, in the municipality of Al-Shamra, about the situation of his sector in the state, that “the process falls within the framework of valuing and reusing this filtered water, as the triple treatment technology allows expanding agricultural irrigation with this type of water to include all crops, including vegetables, instead of being limited to grains and fruit trees only.”
Derbal stressed “the necessity of valuing and re-utilizing the used filtered water, especially with the existence of a legal arsenal that regulates the use of this water in the Official Gazette.”
He added that instructions in this regard will be sent to all state directors of the sector across the country in order to commit to incorporating modern technologies, including tertiary treatment, in projects related to the completion of filtration stations.
When he received explanations about the project to complete the canal to divert water from the Beni Haroun Dam in Mila towards the Kudia Medawar Dam in Timgad, Batna, via the Ain Karsha pumping station in Oum El Bouaghi, on which work is currently underway, the Minister gave directions on the necessity of respecting the deadlines for delivering the second part of the renewal of the first canal within the specified deadlines.
Darbal then inspected the water treatment plant expansion project at the level of the Kudia al-Madwar Dam in the municipality of Timgad, where he stressed the necessity of careful follow-up with regard to the treatment plants, whether it is expansion or rehabilitation projects, and also ensuring quality standards in completion and respecting the applicable technical standards in order to achieve the desired goals of mobilizing more water in order to support the distribution of this vital material for the benefit of the population.
In the city of Batna, the Minister inspected the construction work of a second used water purification station with a capacity equivalent to 450,000 people. This is a project in which the work progress rate has reached 56 percent and is expected to be received before the end of the current year 2026.
