Yesterday, Thursday in Algiers, the Minister of Transport, Kamal Beljoud, accompanied by the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Kamal Rizik, and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdel Hafeez Hani, supervised a coordination meeting to study the mechanisms that enable facilitating the procedures related to the unloading and shipping of ships.
The meeting, which was organized at the headquarters of the Ministry of Transport, in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and the directives of the Prime Minister, was attended by executives from the various concerned ministerial departments, and representatives of the Coast Guard, the General Directorate of Customs and the General Directorate of National Security.
The meeting concluded that it is necessary to rely on the digital platform of the port community and to circulate its work by all actors to provide greater flexibility in handling goods and commodities at the level of national ports in order to avoid delay fines on ships and containers incurred by the public treasury in hard currency.
After the meeting, Beljoud confirmed that the delay in taking care of the ships on the outskirts of the Algerian ports “has consequences, especially the payment of delay fines, which reflect negatively on the public treasury,” explaining that during this meeting, “the situation inside the ports was diagnosed” and it was agreed on what measures should be taken in in the near future to reduce this bleeding of hard currency.”
Beljud added, “The most appropriate solution is to digitize the interests of all those involved in the ports, whether they are the interests of trade, agriculture, customs, police, as well as other parties.”
For his part, Razik considered that the task of avoiding delay fines on ships and containers is based on “joint action,” and that this meeting is “a stage in a process that began months ago” with regard to addressing imbalances and problems related to delays in containers or ships.
Razeeq preferred to come up with a “digital platform project that will enable the Ministry of Commerce to address problems related to the entry of goods, and what is related to delay fines related to ships or containers,” considering that this platform will provide a “final” solution to this problem.
For his part, Hani noted the “extreme” importance of this meeting, especially in order to “cover the market and the citizens’ needs for strategic materials with wide consumption.” He valued the “urgent” solutions reached by the conferees, “especially the digitization of the conduct of everything related to containers and ships at the level of all the ports of the country.” Al-Jazaery”, expecting results to appear “in the short term” after controlling all weaknesses.
For reference, the digital platform for the port community, launched by the port services complex “Sirpur”, is an integrated platform for the port logistics chain, which has been modernized and expanded to include everything related to port activity.
This platform includes a timely and secure exchange of all data and documents digitally between all actors and dealers, including departments in charge of control, customs and ports, shipping agents, coast guards, border police, handlers and banks.
This platform will provide all services continuously 24/7, 7 days a week.
This platform also provides many other advantages for the benefit of economic operators, including improving the pace of transit of goods through ports, improving the quality of services for customers, ensuring the confidentiality of exchanged information and data, entering information and data electronically through a unified point, with the possibility of real-time monitoring of the physical and administrative status of goods by any means of communication (smartphone, computer). electronic board…).
