Flamengo announced the termination of its coach’s contract, after the first team’s 8-0 victory against Madureira at the famous Maracanã Stadium in the semi-finals of the Rio de Janeiro Regional Championship, known as the Carioca.
Luis (40 years old) supervised “Al-Mangao” in 101 matches during a year and a half, according to statistics from the “Sofascore” platform.

Those who follow the news of the famous Brazilian club attribute the reason for the coach’s dismissal to the decline in the team’s performance with the start of the new season.
Flamengo was content with achieving one victory in four matches, with the start of the campaign to defend its local title.
It also lost the final of the Continental Super Cup, or “Recopa Sudamericana,” to the Argentine side, Lanus, with a score of 4-2 in the two home and away matches.
The former left-back led for Atletico Madrid and Chelsea; Flamengo achieved championships despite his recent move to the world of coaching, as he retired from playing with the same club in 2024.
The former international player was able to win the Carioca Championship, the Brazilian League, and the Libertadores Cup last season.
Potential successor
Brazilian media nominated Portuguese Leonardo Jardim to replace Luis Felipe.
Jardim is free of any commitment after leaving the Brazilian club Cruzeiro in December 2025.
The Portuguese has a rich CV, having coached prestigious clubs such as Sporting Lisbon, Monaco and Al Hilal Saudi Arabia.
The 51-year-old coach succeeded in winning several titles, most notably the French and Greek Leagues and the AFC Champions League.
