
The Civil Protection Services revealed that 1,209 traffic accidents were recorded within a week, leaving 42 dead and 1,415 injured, while 4 deaths were recorded due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The statement of the General Directorate of Protection, on Tuesday, stated that during the period from 7 to 13 December 2025, civil protection units recorded 25,457 interventions, and this was as a result of receiving distress calls from citizens. These interventions included various areas of civil protection activities, whether related to traffic accidents, domestic accidents, health evacuation, fire suppression, and security services’ coverage of various demonstrations.
With regard to health evacuations, the protection units carried out 16,042 interventions, through which 15,708 wounded people were treated and evacuated, while in the context of traffic accidents, the same units carried out 2,107 interventions in 1,209 traffic accidents that led to the death of 42 people and the injury of 1,415 others who were treated and transferred to hospital centers. It is considered the heaviest toll recorded in the state of Boumerdes, with 3 people dying at the scene of the accidents and 39 injured. Others as a result of 39 traffic accidents.
Civil protection units also carried out 904 interventions that allowed the extinguishing of 561 fires, including domestic, industrial and various fires, the most important of which were recorded in the state of Algiers with 95 fires, Oran with 33 fires and Blida with 23 fires, while in the field of various operations 6404 interventions were recorded in order to save 551 people in danger and cover 5592 ambulance operations.
On the other hand, with regard to incidents related to poisoning with carbon monoxide gas (Co) emitted from various means of heating and water heaters, the protection units carried out 32 interventions that allowed the provision of first aid to 72 people poisoned by this dangerous gas who were transferred to hospital institutions, with the death of 4 people poisoned by carbon monoxide gas recorded in each of Oum El Bouaghi Governorate, two people, Blida, one person, and Tiaret, one person.
