Callas: The European Union is considering keeping the Strait of Hormuz open amid fears of rising oil prices

European Union foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas said that the Union will discuss during its meetings ways to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to ensure the security of oil and energy supplies. She explained that this issue represents a vital interest for the European Union, noting that the discussions also included communicating with the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding any potential threats to closing the strait.

Callas added that the war in Iran has led to a rise in oil prices, which raises great concern for the European Union, noting that closing the Strait of Hormuz would be a very dangerous development for global energy supplies.

It also reported that the European Union will discuss the possibility of amending the mandate of the Aspedes naval mission to enhance its capabilities in the region, warning that the United States easing sanctions on Russian oil represents a dangerous precedent that may affect the global energy market.
