“CAF” punishes the Algerian national team… and “FAF” appeals – New Algeria

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) imposed a harsh punishment on the Algerian national team and the Algerian Football Federation, against the backdrop of the events that took place in the match. Nigeriadrawing the quarter-finals of the African Cup “CAN 2025”.

The Algerian Football Federation, FAF, confirmed… statement This evening, Wednesday, he presented the sanctions imposed on the Algerian national team, in detail, which were as follows:

1- Goalkeeper Luca Zidane was suspended for two (2) matches, effective during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

2- A suspension penalty was imposed on defender Rafik Belghali for four (4) matches, including two (2) suspended matches. This penalty will take effect during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

3- A fine of 5,000 US dollars was imposed on the Algerian Football Federation, due to inappropriate behavior by the national team, after five (5) players received yellow cards during the match, in violation of Article 130 (Paragraph A) of the Penal Code of the Confederation of African Football, in addition to a fine of 25,000 US dollars, due to inappropriate behavior by some players and officials after the end of the match, which damaged the image of the match, in A violation of Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Penal Code.

4- A fine of 5,000 US dollars was imposed on the Algerian Football Federation, due to the use of fireworks by supporters of the Algerian national team inside the stands.

5- A fine of 5,000 US dollars was imposed on the Algerian Football Federation, due to the throwing of projectiles by supporters of the Algerian national team.

6- A fine of 10,000 US dollars was imposed on the Algerian Football Federation for not respecting security measures, as a result of some supporters’ attempts to pass the security barriers.

7- A fine of 50,000 US dollars was imposed on the Algerian Football Federation, due to insulting and offensive behavior (raising banknotes) by some Algerian supporters towards the match referees.

“FAF” explained, in the same statement, that “following the issuance of these decisions, the Algerian Football Federation immediately initiated the appeal procedures stipulated in accordance with the applicable laws, to object to these sanctions.”

The statement added: “The Federation also continues to follow this file with the utmost attention, and reaffirms its determination to defend the interests of Algerian football, within the framework of strict respect for the regulatory and institutional frameworks.”
