Bouchait: 92 percent of traffic accidents are caused by the human factor

The head of the Traffic Coordination Office at the General Command of the National Gendarmerie, Major Samir Bushit, revealed that 92 Percentage of traffic accidents is primarily caused by the human factor, while the remaining percentage is shared by both the vehicle factor and the environment.

In the language of numbers, Major Bouchait revealed, in a statement to “Al-Hiwar” newspaper, that “the interests of the National Gendarmerie recorded, through their territory of jurisdiction, during the month of Ramadan for the year 2023, the occurrence of 687 traffic accidents, which, unfortunately, left 1,220 victims, including 217 deaths and 1,003 injured.

This outcome – adds Bushahit – is relatively high compared to its predecessor for the year 2022, and this is due to the involvement of cargo transport vehicles in several serious traffic accidents due to excessive speed, dangerous overtaking, lack of traffic awareness, lack of mental presence while driving the vehicle, in addition to some drivers continuing to drive. Driving their vehicle despite feeling tired, exhausted and lacking concentration, especially in the morning, as more than 37 percent of these accidents were recorded during the evening period.

As for the death toll of traffic accidents recorded during the blessed Eid Al-Fitr weekend, 68 traffic accidents were recorded. These accidents left 26 dead and 135 injured. This toll is considered one of the heaviest tolls recorded during the weekend in the holy month of Ramadan.
