Minister of Communication Zouhair Bouamama said, on Saturday, in the capital, that Algeria “possesses all the elements and capabilities that enable it to use soft power,” noting the major role played by the media in presenting the country’s image in an optimal manner.
This came in a symposium attended by officials, experts, cultural and economic actors, and entrepreneurs, as well as athletes and content makers residing in Algeria and abroad.
During his supervision of the national symposium “Algerian Soft Power: Towards Developing a National Strategy for Influence,” Bouamama promoted the use of soft power by “presenting our country with its great history, heritage, culture, arts, and sports.”
The minister called for the need to “coordinate and mobilize all parties, such as the media, civil society, intellectuals, influencers, content makers, and others.”
Bouamama stressed the goal of giving the best image of Algeria, and also urged the need to engage in this trend, highlighting that “this endeavor also coincides with the presence of a strong and clear political will expressed by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.”
The Minister reiterated the President’s directive to “the necessity of all of us working to improve the image of Algeria among others,” adding, “This trend coincides with the economic achievements and important projects currently being achieved.”
He referred to “the great economic achievement represented by the western mining line of Gara Jbeilat – Tindouf – Béchar,” praising the “distinctive and successful presence” of Algerians abroad as a “soft power.”
He added: “They are strongly connected to their homeland and are working, from their position, to present the Algerian narrative in the optimal way.”
The Minister of Communication recorded that this symposium represents “a step that will be followed by new steps,” adding that “the fruitful discussion will turn into a national strategy for creating soft power at the level and size of our great country.”
