Blocked roads and intensified efforts to provide first aid to citizens

Heavy snowfall caused the closure of several roads and isolated some mountainous areas in several states of the country, which led to traffic paralysis and required the intervention of civil protection units.

Civil protection teams, along with the services of the National Gendarmerie and the People’s National Army, continue their work to open roads and provide assistance to road users, while the General Directorate of National Security called on motorists and users of the public road to exercise caution and caution in their movements, as a result of the weather fluctuations witnessed in many states of the country.

The Directorate stated in a post, on Sunday, on its Facebook page, the necessity of adhering to the rules, the legal speed, adhering to controls, and respecting the safety distance.

According to what was reported by the National Gendarmerie, the snow caused the closure of the National Road No. 33 linking the states of Tizi Ouzou and Bouira, exactly at the level of the Assoul region of the municipality of Ait Boumehdi.

In the state of Djelfa, national road No. 01A, linking the states of Djelfa and Laghouat, is closed at the level of the Oued El Mit Bridge, Hassi Bahbah municipality, due to high water levels, as well as state road No. 110, linking the states of Blida and Tipaza, exactly at the level of the center of Ben Hamdani, municipality of Ben Khalil, is closed due to high water levels.

As for the state of Tlemcen, the national road No. 22, linking the municipalities of Terni and Sebdo, exactly to the village of Tel Terni, municipality of Terni, is closed due to the rise in water levels, as well as the state road No. 52, linking the states of Relizane and Mostaganem, exactly at the level of the Salhia roundabout, municipality of Beni Zantis, is closed due to the high water level.

For its part, the Civil Protection Services recorded, until one o’clock in the afternoon yesterday, several field interventions across several states, following the recent weather fluctuations, and according to a statement by the General Directorate of Civil Protection, in the municipality of Oran, the collapse of the wall of two rooms of a ground floor residence on Chahid Haouassia El Hawari Street was recorded, without recording any human losses. It was also recorded in the municipality of Relizane, the collapse of the roof of a residence (ground floor + 1) on Bakhda Ould El Maysoum Street, where the teams were able to remove 6 people. People in good condition.

The authorities began operations to absorb the accumulated rainwater inside the library vestibule and an underground garage in the Al-Safeh neighbourhood. In the state of Tissemsilt, it was recorded that a dividing wall between two ground dwellings in the Zafan Abed neighborhood collapsed (with no human casualties). A child was also treated and transported to the local hospital after a tree fell on him in the Ain Laura neighbourhood, causing him shock, nosebleeds, and an injury to the mouth. In the state of Tiaret, teams intervened to drain the accumulated rainwater from National Road No. 23 to ensure Traffic continuity.

In the context of continuing the efforts made to deal with the effects of these weather fluctuations recorded during the recent period, which was characterized by the fall of significant amounts of rain, and in implementation of the instructions of the governors of the Republic, all material and human capabilities were harnessed by the various concerned departments, especially municipalities, public works directorates, the National Sanitation Office and state public institutions.

This comes as an extension of the proactive measures that local authorities have previously undertaken with the aim of preventing the dangers of weather fluctuations and enhancing field readiness, especially through periodic operations to eliminate black spots for random waste dumping, cleaning and purifying waterways, disinfecting rainwater drains, and treating black spots.

In this context, several field interventions were implemented, including remedial cleaning campaigns, clearing waterways, cleaning rainwater drains, and purifying road edges, to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and reduce potential disturbances.

The various concerned departments remain mobilized and ready to intervene when necessary in anticipation of any emergency, in light of the continuing weather fluctuations experienced by the states of the country.
