Belaili may temporarily avoid FIFA punishment – New Algeria

Tunisian lawyer Ali Abbas revealed one condition that allows Algerian international player Youssef Belaili to temporarily avoid being punished by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

Last Thursday, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) decided… punishment Youssef Blaili was suspended for one year and fined 5,000 Swiss francs in the wake of the case brought against him by his former French club Ajaccio on charges of forgery and fraud, and benefiting from an amount of 380,000 euros from the French team.

But Tunisian lawyer Ali Abbas kept a glimmer of hope for Youssef Blaili that he could avoid the punishment and participate, with the national team, in the 2026 World Cup finals, if he recovers from the injury he has been suffering from since last December.

Ali Abbas said in statements to the “SportsMVL” platform on YouTube, which we found on the site: Al Ain News Al-Emirati, today, Saturday: “The decision was brief without explaining the reasons behind this punishment, and therefore a request must be submitted to the International Football Association in order to obtain the reasons related to this punishment.”

The Tunisian lawyer continued, explaining: “In some exceptional cases, FIFA allows suspension of the penalty if an objection is submitted to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which will enable Blailey to play once he recovers, pending the final decision of the case.”

He concluded: “We hope that the International Federation’s decision includes this possibility, and if the opposite occurs, a request to stop the implementation of the penalty must be submitted directly to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”

Ali Abbas played a major role in reducing Youssef Blayli’s punishment by half, in 2015, at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, after he was also suspended by FIFA after he failed a doping test.

Chapters of the Blailei case with Ajaccio

The chapters of Youssef Blayli’s case with the Ajaccio club go back to the Algerian star unilaterally terminating his contract with his former club, Al-Ahly Saudi Arabia, with which he played in the 2019-20 season, which prompted FIFA to impose a fine on him of 380,000 euros. After his departure from the Saudi club, in the summer of 2020, the Algerian star joined the Qatari club Qatar, then the French club Brest, before landing at the Ajaccio club in the summer of 2022, then he left for the Mouloudia Club of Algiers, before returning to the Tunisian club Esperance in the summer of 2024.

The Ajaccio club revealed in the complaint it filed against Blayli with FIFA, in September 2025, that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TASS) ordered Blayli, in April 2023, to pay a debt of 380,000 euros to his former club Al-Ahly, in a fine imposed on the player independently of Ajaccio, according to the French team’s statement.

The French club’s statement added: “However, in 2024, the player filed a complaint with FIFA to demand the same amount from our club, submitting a memorandum of understanding allegedly signed by our former CEO, Alain Caldarella, and Al-Ahly. This document, on which FIFA’s decision was based, is forged.”

The French club revealed in its letter that it had contacted Saudi Al-Ahly officials to verify the authenticity of the documents, only to receive a response stating that this document did not exist at all, and that the person mentioned as the signatory of the document did not hold any official position in the Saudi club.

After months of studying this issue by FIFA, it decided to impose a one-year suspension on Blaili to increase his suffering, as it came at a time when he was aiming to recover from his knee injury and participate with the national team in the 2026 World Cup finals, next summer.
