The start of the first qualifiers for the 3rd edition of the Algerian Mathematical Olympiad

The Minister of National Education, Mohamed Saghir Saadawi, gave, on Saturday, in Algiers, the signal for the start of the competitions of the third edition of the Algerian Mathematical Olympiad for the year 2026.

More than 200,000 students will participate in this edition, which was given the starting signal at the Omrani Brothers Middle School in Al-Abyar, from whom the best elites who will represent Algeria in regional, continental and international mathematics Olympiad competitions will be selected.

After that, the Minister visited the procedure center at Sheikh Al-Maqrani Secondary School in Ben Aknoun, where, by the way, he affirmed his sector’s keenness “to make this edition of the Olympiad a success, which witnesses the participation of 284,307 students from the middle and secondary levels, by providing all support to the students concerned with the competition in terms of training and training so that they can represent Algeria in the continental and international competitions for the Mathematics Olympiad in the best way.”

He added that these competitions will enable “the selection of the competencies that will be relied upon to honor Algeria, as has been the custom over the past years,” describing Algeria’s participation in these continental and international competitions as very honorable.

On the occasion, the Minister mentioned the proceedings of the national “inter-secondary” competition, which reached its final stages amid great scientific competition among students, revealing the organization of the national competition on “school innovation,” which will be launched this month.

On another level, the Minister highlighted the importance of continuing to work to “provide pedagogical supervision, especially with regard to teachers, in order to achieve the quality of education,” recalling that the sector is ensuring “the transparency and integrity of the competition for recruiting teachers on the basis of certificates in the three educational stages for the year 2025,” for which the registration process took place in the period from December 16, 2025, until January 6 of this year.

On the occasion, he announced “the organization of a similar competition for professors for the year 2026, as well as a professional competition directed at the rest of the administrative corps,” stressing the ministry’s intention to “continue improving the professional and social conditions for sector members.”

Saadawi also revealed “a project to amend Executive Decree No. 25-54, which includes the basic law regarding employees belonging to the national education corps.”
