The Bejaia police overthrew a transnational organized criminal network that attempted to introduce a large shipment of synthetic drugs into the national territory, while arresting 20 members of its organizational structure.
The General Directorate of National Security said in a statement: “Tight operational coordination between the border police and Bejaia port customs resulted in thwarting an attempt to introduce a large shipment of synthetic drugs into the national territory, estimated at more than 700,000 Ecstasy tablets.”
The statement added, “This large shipment of industrial drugs had set off on a sea voyage from one of the French ports last week,” explaining that “the drug shipment, whose total weight is equivalent to 320 kilograms, was inspected at the level of the joint police-customs scanner in the port of Bejaia.”
The drug shipment was seized, distributed on board 3 tourist vehicles coming from France, tightly hidden inside secret cavities created in different parts of their bodies, and their 3 drivers, two women and a man, were arrested.
In continuation of the investigation procedures in this case, under the supervision of the competent prosecution, investigators of the State Security Anti-Illicit Drug Trafficking Squad carried out several operations in each of the states of Bejaia, Algiers, and Setif, which enabled the dismantling of the organizational structure of the criminal network and the arrest of 17 of its members, including a woman.
The operation also enabled the seizure and recovery of 18 vehicles of various types, an amount of money in the national currency of approximately 202 million centimes, and an amount of money in hard currency amounting to 2,980 euros, in addition to sensitive devices and 03 firearms, as well as a group of seals, stamps, and counterfeit stamps.
The identity of the rest of the members of this international criminal network, who are present inside and outside the country, was also identified, and the suspects were presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Specialized Criminal Court at the Sidi M’hamed Court.
