Athletics: A new world record for Sajati

Algerian runner Djamel Sjati set the best world time this season in the 1,000-meter race during the South African Athletics Forum on Tuesday.

Sajati topped the race with a time of two minutes, thirteen seconds and ninety-eight hundredths, ahead of his compatriots Hathat Yassin, who came in second with a time of 2:16:39, and Osama Sharad, who came in third place, 30 hundredths behind his predecessor.

Hathat was followed by another Algerian runner, Amine Drabli, who finished the race in 2:17:41 minutes.

Jamal Sajati continues his preparations for the Summer Olympics, which will be held in the French capital, Paris, at the end of next July, after qualifying earlier.

The runner-up at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, USA, in the 800-meter race, is camping with the trio, Hathat, Darabli, and Sharad, in South Africa, under the supervision of the national team coach, Ammar Benida.

Sajati, along with his colleague Suleiman Mawla, is considered one of the most prominent athletes expected to win the national banner in the next Olympics, in light of the excellent results they achieve in the 800 meters in particular.

Sajati is ranked third in the world rankings for the same specialty issued by the International Association of Athletics Federations with a score of 1,386 points, while Suleiman Mawla follows him in fourth place with a total of 1,375 points.

The young Kenyan runner, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, is alone in the lead, followed by the world champion in Budapest, Hungary, Canadian Marco Arup, who trails Wanyonye by only six points.
