Artificial intelligence is a weapon and Algeria is betting on digital transformation

Suleiman Abdouche, President of the National Organization of Algerian Journalists, confirmed that artificial intelligence has become a strategic tool in the global media battle, calling for the necessity of arming journalists with digital knowledge to face contemporary media challenges.

During the opening of the training course organized by the organization in partnership with Huawei Algeria, on the topic of “Information and Communication Technology and Artificial Intelligence,” with the participation of a large number of journalists and media professionals, Abdouche pointed out the rapid technical developments that the world is witnessing, which have completely redrawn the features of the journalistic profession, noting that Algeria has chosen, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the path of modernization and digitization as a strategic option that does not… There is no return to it.

The same spokesman explained that the presidential vision is based on building a solid digital economy and a society that relies on technology as a fundamental driver of comprehensive development, which has led to tangible achievements represented in the establishment of the National School for Artificial Intelligence, the development of modern data centers, and the launch of regulatory bodies to support innovation.

Artificial intelligence is a lever for comprehensive development

The head of the organization also stressed that artificial intelligence represents a qualitative leap towards the economy of the future, as it allows the modernization of vital sectors such as industry, agriculture, education and health, and opens the way for entrepreneurship and young talents.

Abdoush said that the media is one of the sectors that has benefited most from this technological revolution, as artificial intelligence tools allow for high speed in transmitting information, high accuracy in analysis, and professional quality in the production of visual and audio content.

The speaker warned of the other side of technology, pointing out that major media powers are now investing artificial intelligence in misinformation campaigns and directing public opinion, by falsifying images and videos and spreading false information.

He added that the Algerian press cannot confront these challenges through traditional means, but must possess advanced technical tools to be the first line of defense for the truth and Algeria’s image abroad.

Abdouche called on Algerian journalists to learn and absorb “the language of the era,” that is, modern technology, stressing that national digital sovereignty inevitably passes through mastery of these tools and investing in them to serve institutions and the nation.

He praised the leap made by the Algerian press, especially in the field of electronic media, stressing the need to continue investing in the human element and creating competencies capable of dealing with rapid technical changes.

Huawei confirms its commitment to supporting the Algerian media

For his part, Alex Liu, Vice President of Huawei Algeria, expressed the company’s pride in this partnership with the National Organization of Journalists, noting that developments in the field of artificial intelligence are accelerating at an unprecedented pace, especially in China and the United States.

He stressed that artificial intelligence applications have become an integral part of daily life, from public services to education and health, expressing his company’s commitment to transferring the latest technologies and expertise to support Algerian media professionals.

An exemplary partnership between the two sectors

Abdouche also considered that this cooperation represents a role model for partnership between the private sector and the media, appreciating the great efforts made by Huawei to develop the capabilities of Algerian journalists and raise their professional competence.

He concluded by stressing that the organization has in mind the goal of qualifying a new generation of journalists, capable of employing modern technologies to serve the nation and defend its interests in the global digital space.
