United Nations statistics indicate that about 800,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from Rafah since the occupation army issued the last forced displacement orders on May 6, on the eve of the ground invasion of the city.

Last Thursday in Bahrain, in his speech during the 33rd session of the Arab League Council at the summit level, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, affirmed that any attack on Rafah is unacceptable, as it would cause another wave of pain and misery.

The spokeswoman for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Gaza, Olga Shirevko, highlighted that the displaced people from Rafah headed to the areas of Al-Mawasi, the city of Khan Yunis, and the central parts of Gaza, carrying with them the least they possessed and without shelter or basic resources, noting that “The living conditions in the places they arrived are very bad, as there is no water, food, or shelter, which makes it difficult to describe these conditions in words.”

She stated that “there is no longer a safe place in Gaza after people were repeatedly displaced in search of safety, which makes the need for international assistance urgent,” calling on the world not to forget the people of Gaza, and to keep the sector on its agenda.

The final statement of the Arab Summit in Bahrain condemned the occupation’s obstruction of ceasefire efforts in Gaza and its continued military escalation, by expanding its aggression against the Palestinian city of Rafah, despite international warnings of the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of this.

The Arab countries also condemned the occupation’s control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, with the aim of tightening the siege on civilians in the Strip, which led to the crossing’s operation stopping and the flow of humanitarian aid.
