Blue defends and then surprises
Kuwaiti Blue chose to hole up in its defensive areas throughout the first half, leaving the initiative to its Egyptian counterpart.
Portuguese coach Helio Sousa won the bet at the expense of Egyptian Helmy Toulan, as the two teams parted ways in a goalless draw despite the chances created by the Pharaohs.
Mohamed Elneny’s teammates had the opportunity to take the lead in the 37th minute, after the Egyptian team won a penalty kick.
Defender Abdul Wahab Al-Awadi’s intervention on striker Islam Issa inside the penalty area caused Norwegian referee Espen Eskus to announce a foul.
Commander Amr Al-Sulayya watched his shot pass past the right post of Kuwaiti goalkeeper Saud Al-Hoshan, failing to give his team the advantage.

The style of the Blue Wave changed when the two teams returned from the changing rooms, as the players began to advance towards the goal of Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Bassam.
The bench trio, Nasser Al-Jaza, Rashid Al-Dosari, and Eid Al-Rushdi, helped renew the team’s blood.
For his part, Helmy Tolan included Al-Ahly club playmaker Mohamed Afsha in place of Elneny to activate the final third of the field.
Kuwait received a corner kick in the 64th minute, through which Al-Faraj came, as defender Fahd Al-Hajri rose high and headed the ball to score the goal of the Pharaohs.

The Egyptians then searched in various ways to change the result, as coach Toulan brought in the duo Mido Gaber and Karim Fouad.
Al-Azraq almost doubled the score after Mohamed Dahham was alone with goalkeeper Bassam, had the latter not thrown on the ball, which the former did not handle well in the 81st minute.

Dahham regretted his missed opportunity, as the Egyptian team was able to recover after a serious mistake committed by goalkeeper Hoshan, which led to his expulsion in the 82nd minute.
The referee did not hesitate to signal a second penalty kick, following Houshan’s incorrect exit.
Substitute Afsha received the ball and advanced to successfully execute the penalty kick. Announcing a tie two minutes before the end of regular time.
