Annaba signs a cooperation and friendship agreement with a Chinese city to promote sustainable development – Algerian dialogue

The governor of Annaba, Abdel Qader Jalawi, supervised a ceremony to signing a cooperation and friendship agreement between Annaba and the municipality of Chongqing in the People’s Republic of China, as part of the completion of the Memorandum of Understanding concluded between the two parties in 2023.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, the new agreement aims to improve bilateral relations towards a more depth practical stage, by implementing joint projects within a program that extends from 2025 to 2028, in order to enhance the path of local and decentralized development.

The visit of the Chinese delegation to Annaba witnessed a field tour that included two prominent industrial institutions, the Algerian Steel Corporation (formerly Cedar Al -Hajjar) and the Fernial Foundation of the Asidal Complex, where their economic activities were reviewed and future partnership opportunities were discussed.

The areas of cooperation between the two sides are distributed in several strategic sectors, the most prominent of which are:

Agriculture: Update agricultural practices and integrate smart technologies in the fields of irrigation and production.

Industry: Supporting the creation of an integrated environment to embrace startups in the automotive industry, and implement environmentally friendly projects to reduce industrial pollution.

Renewable energies: expanding solar energy and modernizing the electrical network through smart technologies.

Tourism: mutual promotion and the development of joint tourism products that highlight the cultural and civilizational diversity of the two cities.

Reconstruction: Exchange of experiences in the areas of smart urban planning and sustainable urban preparation.

According to the statement, this step represents an embodiment of the will of the two parties in consolidating the Algerian-Chinese friendship ties, and transforming decentralized cooperation into practical projects that serve sustainable development and enhance bilateral partnership.
