An important moral victory for Algeria over Sudan – New Algeria

The Algerian national team achieved an important moral victory, this Wednesday evening, over the Sudan national team, at the beginning of its journey in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Riyad Mahrez, the national team defeated its Sudanese counterpart (3-0), in the meeting that took place this evening, Wednesday, in Rabat, for the first round of the fifth group of the first round of the final session of the African Cup of Nations “2025”, which will continue in Morocco until next January 18.
Mahrez scored the two goals that won Algeria, in the 02nd and 61st minutes, the first after a beautiful pass from Boudaoui, and the second after a wonderful pass from Amoura.
The Algerian national team almost deepened the gap several times, especially through striker Mohamed El Amin Amoura in the 72nd minute when his ball hit the Sudan national team’s goal post. This was before substitute Ibrahim Mazza succeeded in scoring the third goal in the 85th minute.
This victory is considered very important from a moral standpoint for coach Vladimir’s squad PetkovicThus, the bad start of the “Greens” team in the finals of the previous two tournaments, “Cannes 2021” in Cameroon and “Cannes 2023” in Côte d’Ivoire, was erased from memory, which led to the exclusion of Mahrez and his teammates from the first round of the tournament.
Algeria tops Group Five
Thanks to today’s victory, Algeria leads the Group E standings with 3 points, with a goal difference from second-placed Burkina Faso, which won today, Wednesday, over Equatorial Guinea, with a score of (2-1).
Equatorial Guinea took the lead through Marvin Aniebo, in the 85th minute, despite playing with a disadvantage after player Basilio Basilio Ndong was sent off in the 50th minute.
In stoppage time, things turned upside down, as the Burkina Faso national team returned strongly, and Jorge Minongo scored the equalizer in the 90th + 5th minute, before Edmund Tapsoba gave his country victory with a fatal second goal in the 90th + 8th minute.
In the second round, the national team will meet its Burkinabé counterpart on Sunday, December 28 (18:30 p.m.), then it will face the Equatorial Guinea national team on Wednesday, December 31 (17:00 p.m.).
The first and second placed teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, in addition to the four best third-placed teams.
