An agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Interior to digitize consular services – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Today, at its headquarters, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Interior, Local Communities and Urban Planning represented by the General Directorate of National Security, with the aim of enhancing coordination between the two sectors in the field of digitization of some consular services.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the national community abroad, Sufyan Shayeb, and the agreement was signed by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounes Muqarman, and the Director-General of National Security, Ali Badawi.

In a speech on this occasion, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that this agreement represents a new step in the process of modernizing consular services, which the Ministry places among its priorities, given the importance that the President of the Republic attaches to the national community abroad as an integral component of the Algerian nation.

He explained that this trend received special attention during the symposium for heads of consular posts held in February 2026, which led to a set of recommendations aimed at improving and developing consular services.

The agreement aims to accelerate the processing times for consular files by adopting a new digital system in line with the national strategy for digital transformation. It also reflects the joint will of the foreign and interior affairs sectors to establish an integrated approach based on enhancing coordination and intensifying cooperation between them, in a way that supports the state’s efforts to modernize administration and improve the quality of public service provided inside and outside the country.
