The Minister of Solidarity launches a national campaign to prevent drugs – New Algeria

The Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues, Dr. Soria Moulouji, today, Monday, at the official launch ceremony of the national neighborhood field awareness campaign on mechanisms for protection against drugs and psychotropic substances in Algeria: prevention, intervention and care, under the slogan: “Let us all unite to protect our children.”

The Ministry explained in a statement that this campaign falls within the framework of the National Solidarity Sector’s contribution to embodying the national strategy to combat drugs and psychotropic substances for the period 2025-2029, by carrying out its basic tasks of prevention, awareness-raising, social care, and empowerment of various societal groups, in a way that enhances the state’s comprehensive approach in confronting this multidimensional scourge.

By the way, the Minister highlighted, in the speech she delivered on the occasion, that the National Strategy to Combat Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (2025-2029), which was approved by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and whose implementation is supervised by the Ministry of Justice, constitutes a clear and integrated national road map, based on a proactive preventive approach before it is therapeutic, and places prevention in school, family and community settings at the core of its priorities, in addition to enhancing integration and coordination between various institutional actors.

To ensure the effective implementation of the national neighborhood field campaign, the Minister revealed that more than 300 neighborhood solidarity cells have been recruited across the various states of the country, including 229 doctors, 312 sociologists, 310 psychologists, and 306 social assistants.

In the same context, a targeted neighborhood information program will be activated, aiming to direct addicted persons and their families towards social and psychological accompaniment mechanisms, thus contributing to their school and social reintegration, according to an approach that takes into account the human dimension and preserves dignity.

The Minister also confirmed that the national awareness-raising and field campaign on protection from drugs and psychotropic substances, which will tour all states of the country and last eight days, targets an important number of neighborhoods and public spaces that attract all segments of society, including young people and adolescents, by going out to them and opening the door to discussion with them to enlighten and guide them about the range of risks that they or their relatives may face as a result of addiction, as well as methods of prevention and healthy behaviors that must be adopted for safety and protection from the effects of drugs and their dire effects.

The Minister added that work will be done to study and activate various mechanisms to enhance the means of caring for and protecting youth and children, and to limit the spread of this phenomenon, emphasizing the priority of the preventive dimension within control and treatment approaches, especially since this scourge, despite its impact on various social segments, is increasingly targeting the youth and adolescent group, including minor children, in various settings.

At the same level, the Minister indicated that the National Solidarity Sector initiated awareness programs directed at children, mothers, fathers, and various educational and social frameworks, which as a whole seek to enhance awareness of the dangers of drugs and psychotropic substances, and to establish a positive health culture that preserves the dignity of youth and children, and guarantees their psychological and physical safety. In the field of social and psychological care for children and vulnerable groups, the sector works to support the national structures specialized in providing care and psychological support, and the social reintegration of everyone who has been exposed to these conditions. It also seeks, in cooperation with partners, periodically and continuously, to organize study days, awareness-raising campaigns, and training workshops, targeting various groups, and placing at the center of attention the family, school, and community, as they are the basic pillars in the process of prevention and community immunity.

In the field of drug control, the Minister stressed that it represents a national priority that cannot be postponed, given the seriousness of its repercussions that go beyond the social dimension to affect the health, psychological, and economic security of society, which requires a comprehensive vision and unified efforts, and in this context, she pointed out that the success of these joint national endeavors depends primarily on a strong will, effective coordination, and real cooperation between all active institutions.

On the other hand, the Minister of Solidarity, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Justice, supervised the signing of a cooperation agreement between the National Solidarity Sector, represented by the Social Development Agency, and the Ministry of Justice, represented by the National Office for Combating Drugs and Drug Addiction, in a step aimed at consolidating institutional coordination in the areas of prevention, accompaniment, and social care.

For reference, the study day’s program included interventions by specialists and representatives of public bodies on the various dimensions related to the phenomenon of drugs and psychotropic substances, through an approach that combined the legal, security, health, religious and social aspects.

The pivotal role of the family, educational institutions, and moderate religious discourse was emphasized, in addition to the effectiveness of neighborhood cells in prevention, sensitization, early detection, and guidance toward treatment and reintegration paths.

Based on the statement, the works concluded the need to intensify coordination between various sectors, and adopt prevention as a strategic option to protect children and youth from the dangers of this scourge.
