Algeria wants a moral victory over Sudan – New Algeria

Today, Wednesday, the Algerian national team will open its campaign in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals, facing the Sudan national team, for the first round of the first round of the competition, which Morocco has been hosting since last Sunday until next January 18.
The “Greens” team wants to achieve victory in today’s match in order to raise its morale in anticipation of the rest of the journey and officially turn the page on the past, when the national team failed to pass the first round in the two previous final rounds, in “Cannes 2021” in Cameroon and “Cannes 2023” in Côte d’Ivoire.
Since their arrival last Friday at their residence, in Rabat, the Algerian national team players have doubled, under the supervision of coach Vladimir PetkovicWorking seriously, intensely and in a positive atmosphere that reflects the prevailing spirit within the group and the strong will that the national elements follow to deliver an honorable performance since the first meeting, with the aim of positioning themselves in a suitable position to qualify for the semi-finals.
Regarding, ambiguity still remains regarding defender Samir Sharqi, who recently returned from injury, as the matter of his participation has not been fundamentally decided, in light of the technical staff’s keenness to exercise caution. Except for that, the rest of the Algerian squad remains ready to defend the national colors with all commitment and discipline.
For its part, the Sudanese national team, led by Ghanaian coach Kwasi Appiah, seeks to play the role of the “dark horse” in the group, although the Algerian national team has a clear historical advantage.
The two teams have competed on seven previous occasions: six official matches and one friendly match. It tilted in favor of the Algerians with four victories (including a victory on the mat), compared to three draws, without recording any defeat.
Today’s meeting, scheduled in Rabat at 16:00 (Algerian time), has an unprecedented character. This is because it is the first confrontation between Algeria and Sudan in the African Cup of Nations finals. This may give the “Greens” additional motivation to leave their mark and write a new positive page in their continental path.
