Algeria commemorates International Arabic Language Day with a ceremony in honor

On Thursday, Algeria celebrated the International Day of the Arabic Language, where Prime Minister Sefi Gharib, at the International Conference Center “Abdellatif Rahal”, commissioned by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, supervised the ceremony for distributing the President’s Prize for Arabic Literature and Language in its first edition.
This came in a statement from the Prime Minister’s Department, which explained that “the ceremony took place in the presence of a number of government members, the President of the Supreme Council for the Arabic Language, Professor Saleh Belaid, and the Dean of the University of Algiers, Sheikh Muhammad Al-Mamoun Al-Qasimi Al-Hassani, in addition to an elite group of university professors, researchers, intellectuals, and representatives of the literary and scientific community.”
According to the same statement, this award aims to promote the use of the Arabic language and enhance its presence in various administrative, educational, scientific, cultural and technological fields, encourage scientific research and literary creativity, and support translation into the Arabic language, in a way that contributes to valuing scientific and knowledge production and raising the status of the Arabic language in various aspects of life.
During the ceremony, a number of researchers and innovators were crowned in recognition of their outstanding efforts and contributions.
In the field of the flourishing of the Arabic language, Al-Siddiq Boutouta was honored with the first prize for his research, “A Glossary of Satellite Terms and Definitions,” and Lakhdar Far won the second prize for his specialized research in the dictionary for the construction, public works, and irrigation sectors, while the third prize was won by Ali Kashroud for his book, “The Guide to Orthographic Rulings.”
On the level of literature and creativity, the first prize in the novel category was won by Nana Baba Hani for her novel “Al-Nayriyya,” and the second prize in the poetry category was won by Fatima Gharbi for her poem “Girls of the Horses,” while the third prize in the short story collection category went to Hafiza Mimi for her collection “It is Forbidden to Throw away Gameshes.”
The same statement stressed that the creation of this award comes within the framework of the care that the Algerian state gives to the Arabic language, as it is a pillar of national identity, and an essential tool in building knowledge, promoting scientific research, and encouraging creativity.
