Algeria calls on the parties to the conflict in Sudan to an immediate ceasefire – New Algeria

Addressing the humanitarian situation in Sudan, Ben Jama pointed out that the country is facing “the largest displacement crisis in the world, with a great risk of severe food insecurity, which threatens millions of Sudanese, especially in Darfur.”

In this regard, he stressed that “it is necessary to study all possible means to ensure unhindered access of international humanitarian aid to all affected Sudanese residents, through close cooperation between the Sudanese government and the working humanitarian agencies.”

In this context, Ben Jamaa adds, A3+ members “expressed their satisfaction with the Sudanese authorities’ decision to facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid through several border crossing points such as “Chad-Tina-Darfur,” including facilitating humanitarian flights to El Fasher, Kadugli, and El Obaid airports. “And we encourage continued commitments between the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Sudanese authorities.”

He also stressed, “We also note the announcement of a new round of negotiations within the framework of the Jeddah track, and therefore we call on the Sudanese parties to commit to good intentions during these negotiations,” congratulating “the parties facilitating this track, namely the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, and the International Development Authority (IDA) IGAD) which also represents the African Union for their continued efforts.”

A3+ members considered that “holding an international humanitarian symposium in Paris next April is a praiseworthy initiative that would be an opportunity to obtain clear commitments from Sudanese actors and the international community in order to improve the humanitarian situation on the ground,” with an emphasis on “” “It is necessary to prefer coordination between various diplomatic means.”

He also pointed out in this regard that it is necessary at this stage to make coordination of regional and international efforts a priority, while evaluating all available frameworks with the aim of adopting a different approach in our joint efforts with the aim of getting out of this crisis, stressing that “this approach must be in place.” On inclusiveness, Sudanese ownership, and appropriate preparation,” adding in the same context, “Talks on humanitarian aspects must be side by side with political efforts in order to reach a comprehensive solution.”

Finally, he concluded by emphasizing that “it is also necessary to highlight the role of regional organizations, especially the African Union, in settling the Sudanese crisis.” In this context, he welcomed “the establishment of a high-level group of the African Union on Sudan.”
