Algeria begins to assume the presidency of the African Union of Peace and Security Council – Algerian dialogue

Today, Friday, Algeria began taking over the presidency of the Confederation of Peace and Security Council throughout the month of August, during which, with the rest of the member states, it will work to push the agenda of peace and security for the African organization.

During its presidency, Algeria will work with the rest of the member states of the Council to address the current security challenges on the continent and pay the agenda of peace and security to the African Union.

The Algerian presidency will witness important meetings dealing with the situation in Sudan and southern Sudan, in addition to other topic sessions related to governance and the early warning system in an apartment related to coordination between both the African mechanism for evaluation by the cities, the Confederation of African Union to combat terrorism and the African Union for Police Cooperation (Afiabol).

The Algerian Presidency Work Program also includes a meeting to study the reference framework of the sub -committee to combat terrorism of the Security Council and the Peace Council, as well as a coordination meeting with African members of the United Nations Security Council.

The proposed agenda in this context reflects the strong will of Algeria to lead the council, in order to face multiple challenges and confirm its position as a central body at the continental level.

It should be noted that on April 15, Algeria was elected a member of the African Union’s peace and security council for a three -year term (2025 – 2028), and this election confirms the recognition of Algeria’s pivotal role in the efforts to prevent conflicts and resolve them in Africa as well as in promoting peace and security on the continent.
