Participants concluded the study day’s work on new threats in Sahel region On national security, from the organization of the Permanent Committee for Studies, Strategy and Foresight within the political and intellectual framework of the National Liberation Front Party “Aflan” “on the impact of new threats in the Sahel region on security in the region,” to a set of recommendations and fundamental outcomes, centered around a deeper understanding of the current challenges and proposing solutions based on a comprehensive and proactive approach.

The threats in the Sahel region are no longer merely of a traditional security nature, but have become complex and intertwined, including terrorism, hybrid wars, in addition to intellectual and media penetrations, which necessitates a call for adopting a comprehensive security approach based on the integration of security, social development and intellectual dimensions, given that traditional security treatments have proven limited in the face of these intertwined threats.

With regard to regional coordination, the participants in the Al-Aid Party symposium stressed the need to strengthen regional coordination mechanisms between the Sahel countries and neighboring countries, led by Algeria, through permanent institutions for exchanging information, joint assessment of threats, building effective proactive policies, and considering development in border areas as a central tool for preventing the spread of terrorism and cross-border crime, by reducing economic and social fragility exploited by extremist groups, while emphasizing the importance of confronting non-traditional media, digital and intellectual threats “by building a communication strategy.” The impact is multi-level, relying on responsible professional media, digital education and consolidating community awareness to protect youth groups from extremist ideology.

To dry up the sources of funding, participants in the same symposium called for strengthening regional judicial and security cooperation to target the sources of financing of armed groups, combating money laundering, the informal economy and transnational criminal networks, while emphasizing the need to respect the sovereignty and privacy of states, and to give priority to African and regional solutions in addressing security challenges, away from any interventions outside the framework of international legitimacy. While praising the Algerian experience in combating terrorism and extremism, as an integrated model that combines the security approach, the national interest and preventive treatment, and inspires the formulation of joint regional strategies.

The Secretary-General of the AFL, Abdel Karim bin Mubarak, had mentioned in his speech during the opening of the aforementioned symposium that this important symposium discusses a vital topic that is directly related to the national security of our country, in light of the rapid transformations the world is witnessing and increasing challenges at the regional and international levels.

The organization of this symposium comes in the context of keenness National Liberation Front Party Always keeping pace with national and international issues, and interacting responsibly with them, in a way that serves the nation’s highest interest and enhances its security and stability. According to Bin Mubarak, the concept of national security today has become a comprehensive concept that goes beyond traditional dimensions, to include political, economic, social, and development aspects, which requires us to read in-depth our strategic environment, and understand the nature of the challenges that may directly or indirectly reflect on the security of our country.

Based on this perspective, in the opinion of the Secretary-General of FLAN, this symposium is of special importance, given that the African Sahel region is witnessing today profound transformations and unprecedented challenges embodied in the growth of terrorism and extremist groups, the disintegration of some state institutions and the increase in foreign interventions under various pretexts, with the worsening political, economic and social crises.

Ben Mubarak pointed out that President Tebboune made Africa a strategic priority, not with slogans, but with political, diplomatic and economic action, out of his belief that Africa speaks with one voice, and that its problems can only be solved by the hands of its people, and Algeria in this regard will always remain a force of balance and stability in the region.

On another topic, related to the upcoming legislative elections, the Secretary of the National Liberation Front party dispelled the concerns of the party’s activists regarding the preparations for the upcoming legislation, as he stated to the party’s activists in Bouira the day before yesterday that the emerging party is financially, logistically, and morally ready to run in the legislative entitlements to renew the human composition of the National People’s Assembly, and that the party is ready and fully prepared for the various electoral dates, calling in this regard, the party’s activists to get closer to the citizens, sense their concerns, and work on Delivering it to the relevant interests to address it, and Bin Mubarak stressed the necessity of accompanying citizens, listening to them, and recording their needs throughout the year, whether appropriate or inappropriate, and that the interaction of party executives and activists with citizens should not be limited to electoral occasions.
