Ait Masoudane: Towards a comprehensive digital health system – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

The Minister of Health confirmed, Muhammad Siddiq Ait MasoudaneDigital transformation has become a strategic priority for the health sector, as it is an essential tool for improving the quality of health services, ensuring fair access to treatment, and enhancing the performance of health institutions.

The minister’s statements came during the national forum titled: “Innovation and digital transformation in the service of the public utility: towards a national program for excellence in the provision of public services,” where he indicated that the ministry is working to embody an integrated vision to build a comprehensive digital health system, based on linking public health institutions to the national health network via optical fibers, in coordination with Algeria TelecomDeveloping modern digital platforms to facilitate procedures, improve coordination, and accelerate service delivery.

The Minister explained that the electronic medical file constitutes one of the main pillars of this system, as it allows patients’ data to be stored in a secure manner, improves treatment follow-up and reduces the frequency of examinations, while enabling doctors to view them within a secured information system based on the patient’s national identifier.

Specialized digital platforms are being gradually activated, including tracking the availability of medicines, maintenance and medical equipment, radiotherapy, and monitoring bed availability in health institutions, in addition to human resources and continuous training platforms, with the aim of improving performance and enhancing the quality of patient care.

The Minister pointed out that digital transformation also includes applications for citizens that enable them to view their health files, book appointments, and benefit from remote consultations, especially for residents of remote areas, in addition to launching telemedicine and radiography platforms supported by artificial intelligence, which contributes to reducing medical errors and saving time.

Ait Masoudane also noted the continued support from High Governorate of Digitization In enhancing the path of digital transformation, stressing that connecting 2,599 health institutions with optical fibers and raising the flow speed is part of the strong infrastructure necessary for this transformation.

The Minister highlighted that the ambition extends to building a smart health system that relies on health data for scientific research, developing early warning systems for epidemics, and promoting innovation in the fields of artificial intelligence and e-health, while encouraging national emerging institutions to invest in this field.
