The captain of the Algerian national team, Riyad Mahrez, confirmed that the “Greens” players realize the extent of the responsibility placed on their shoulders before facing Sudan, stressing that the focus is entirely focused on making a strong start in the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

Mahrez said in the press conference: “There will always be those who criticize and talk, but I do not focus on that. We have quality and we have a great group, and the most important thing is to show that on the field starting tomorrow’s match.”

The Algerian national team star added that the players do not think at all about what happened in previous editions of the tournament, explaining: “We do not think about the past at all. Our complete focus is on the first match, and our goal is to provide a strong performance and a successful start.”

Mahrez touched on the issue of public and media pressure, considering it a normal part of football, especially in Algeria. He said: “Pressure is part of football. We know that the pressure in Algeria is great, but every player must be aware of his responsibility when carrying this shirt and representing this country. The pressure has always been there, and the players know this and will be ready to face it.”

Regarding the criticism directed at him personally, the “Greens” captain responded calmly: “This is part of football. I only focus on what I can offer the team. The most important thing is that we succeed together as a group.”

Mahrez concluded his statements with a confident tone, saying: “I believe that we have the capabilities and potential. We have to prove that starting tomorrow.”
