Africa Cup of Nations: The Egyptian team reaches the quarter-finals

The Egyptian team needed to play an extra half hour over normal time to defeat its Beninese counterpart, on Monday evening, in the 16-final of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
The two teams parted ways within 90 minutes after a 1-1 draw, in the match hosted by the Adrar Stadium in Agadir.
The Pharaohs took the lead through Al-Ahly midfielder Marwan Attia with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area in the 69th minute.

The Beninese national team took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy, with Godal Dosso scoring the equalizer in the 83rd minute.
Defender Yasser Ibrahim gave the Egyptian team the advantage again in the seventh minute of the first extra period, with a header that surprised goalkeeper Marcel D’Angenot.

The Beninese threw all their weight into returning the result, but they clashed with the solidity of coach Hossam Hassan’s squad, which refused to bite from the hole again.
At a time when the match was dying, the legend Mohamed Salah took advantage of the rise of all the Beninese national team players to lead a counterattack.
Salah kicked the ball with the outside of his foot from outside the penalty area, drawing Egypt’s passage to the quarter-finals.
The English Liverpool striker scored his third goal in the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations, which is being held in Morocco until January 18.
The Egyptian team awaits the winner of the match against defending champions Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso in the quarter-finals.
Five teams have qualified for the quarter-finals, as the host Morocco will meet its Cameroonian counterpart on January 9.
Meanwhile, the Teranga Lions of Senegal will face Mali, also on January 9.
The winner of the match between the Algerian national team and the Democratic Republic of Congo will face the winner of the match between Nigeria and Mozambique.
