Match summary
Since the start of the match, the Mozambique national team put pressure on its Gabonese counterpart, the latter committing several lapses in defence.
Faizal Panghal took advantage of one of them, after his team received a corner kick executed by the brilliant Jenny Katamu, to score the lead goal with a header in the 32nd minute.
Katamo returned to double the score for the Mambas in the 38th minute, through a penalty kick awarded to Dominguez Belembe after he was obstructed by Gabonese defender Manga Ekweli.
The crossbar prevented defender Mandava Renildo’s teammates from scoring a third goal before the end of regular time in the first half, after a shot from the left winger Witty.
While the players were waiting for Tunisian referee Mahrez Maleki to announce the end of the first stage after adding four minutes; Veteran Pierre Aubameyang fooled everyone.
Olympique Marseille’s top scorer followed a powerful shot from Didier Ndong, but Mozambican goalkeeper Hernan made a mistake in clearing it to score the goal to reduce the difference.

The Gabonese team threw their weight back into the match and took the risk of attacking, as they had several scoring opportunities, the most dangerous of which was from Aubameyang.
The experienced striker was surprisingly lost on two occasions, despite being alone with goalkeeper Hernan.
Alex Moquito Musonda was able to reduce the difference in the 76th minute, after the Mumbai national team’s defense was unable to clear the ball.
This goal did not prevent the “Mambas” from recording a historic victory, the first since the beginning of their journey in “Alkan” in 1986.
