A stand on the Moroccan-Algerian border denounces the raising of the Israeli occupation flag and affirms the rejection of normalization

Yesterday, Sunday, the entrance to the city of Saidia (eastern Morocco) witnessed a protest in which dozens of citizens and activists participated, denouncing the incident of raising the “Israeli occupation flag” in the “Bein al-Jarf” border area with Algeria a few days ago. By carrying Palestinian flags and burning the flag of the Zionist entity, the protesters expressed their rejection of what they considered a blatant provocation and violation of national sovereignty, chanting slogans in support of the Palestinian cause and against normalization.

The protest, called for by the Moroccan Front to Support Palestine and Against Normalization in the city of Berkane and the National Action Group for Palestine, came in protest against the incident that sparked a widespread wave of denunciation and anger, especially in light of the tightening of security measures at the entrances to the border area. The organizers considered that raising the flag of the occupying entity cannot be separated from a broader context that aims to normalize the Zionist infiltration of the public sphere and distort the historical position of Moroccans in support of the Palestinian cause.

The “National Action Group for Palestine” described the incident of raising the Israeli occupation flag as a “clear-cut criminal scene,” considering that it brought together all the manifestations of a blatant violation of national sovereignty, and an assault on the identity, history, and civilization of the Moroccan people, known for their struggle in defending the nation’s issues, foremost among which is the Palestinian issue. The group confirmed that the incident aroused feelings of discontent and anger in the hearts of Moroccans, because of its dangerous symbolic connotations, especially in a sensitive border area.

The “Action Group” statement added that the people who raised the Israeli occupation flag were not Moroccans, contrary to what was promoted on some media platforms and social networks, but rather a Zionist delegation that came to Morocco under the guise of tourism, led by an Israeli military officer named “Abraham Avizmir,” who, according to the statement, had previously organized similar visits in recent years, which included raising the Israeli occupation flag and taking pictures in different areas, especially in the eastern side, and presenting this as an expression of the Moroccans’ position.

The group recalled a previous incident dating back to the year 2021 in the same place, led by the same person, accompanied by another Israeli female officer, where the Israeli occupation flag was waved at that time, before activists from Oujda and neighboring cities intervened to organize an urgent protest, during which they expressed their categorical rejection of the desecration of the place, which received widespread media coverage at the time.

The statement affirmed that the symbolic popular stand in the “Bein al-Jarraf” region carries a clear message that the Moroccan people and their living forces cannot accept the violation of their sovereignty, the distortion of their reputation, or the country being thrown into an atmosphere of tension that only serves the agendas of chaos and division in which the Zionist entity invests at the regional level. The group linked these facts to the official normalization process, considering it the main reason for opening the door to such breakthroughs.
