A postage stamp commemorating the 25th anniversary of the founding of the African Union – New Algeria

Today, Sunday, in Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of the 39th African Union Summit, the Vice-Chairman of the African Union Commission, Salma Malika Haddadi, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, unveiled a postage stamp commemorating the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Union.

A statement by the African Union explained that this special postage stamp issued by the Italian postal services also symbolizes “the strengthening of the partnership between Italy and Africa, based on shared responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect.”

It is worth noting in this regard that the head of the Italian executive branch was the “guest of honor” at the 39th African Union Summit.

In a speech she delivered yesterday, Saturday, on the occasion of the opening of this summit, Giorgia Meloni called for “genuine” cooperation between Africa and Italy, based on “parity,” expressing her country’s ambition to remain a “distinguished bridge” linking Europe and Africa.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy also chaired jointly last Friday, with the President of the African Union and the Angolan President, João Louronço, the second Africa-Italy Summit.
