A pioneering humanitarian initiative to combat addiction among Algerian youth

In a step that reflects an increasing commitment to confronting the growing phenomenon of addiction among young people, the Salima Sawakri Foundation for Humanitarian Action signed an initiative related to a strategic partnership agreement with the CGSA clinic specializing in the treatment of mental disorders and addiction in Haidra. The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday, December 9, in the presence of representatives of the two institutions, in a step described as one of the pioneering initiatives at the national level.

This partnership aims to provide comprehensive medical treatment and free psychological support for 20 young people from vulnerable groups over a full year, while ensuring continuous individual care every month. The program specifically targets young people who face difficulties in obtaining specialized treatment within the private sector due to its high costs.

During the signing ceremony, Salima Sawakri, President of the Foundation, confirmed that this agreement responds to an urgent need among young people who suffer from addiction.

She explained that the program is not limited to the medical treatment aspect only, but extends to include sustainable social and psychological accompaniment even after the end of the treatment period, with the aim of reintegrating the beneficiaries into society and enabling them to build a stable and productive life.

For his part, Ben Maayza, General Director of the CGSA Clinic, pointed out that the clinic has eight years of experience in the field of mental health, having treated thousands of cases during this period.

He stressed that the specialized medical staff will employ all available capabilities to ensure accurate and effective follow-up of beneficiaries during the various stages of treatment and beyond.

This initiative gains special importance in light of the growing local and international calls to enhance health and psychological care for young people and combat the phenomenon of addiction in its various forms.

It also seeks to provide safe therapeutic spaces and modern programs in line with international standards in this field, with a focus on the human and social dimension of the reintegration process.

It is noteworthy that this partnership represents a role model in the field of cooperation between civil society and specialized medical institutions, and opens new horizons for expanding the scope of care for young people affected by addiction, pending the generalization of such experiences at the level of other states.
