Presidential Decree No. 26-06 was issued in the latest issue of Official Gazette No. 04, which stipulates the establishment of the Central Pharmacy of the Army, as part of efforts to strengthen the military health system and ensure the independence of the drug supply to the People’s National Army.
According to the provisions of the decree, the central pharmacy is a public institution of an administrative nature, enjoying legal personality and financial independence, and subject to the direct guardianship of the Minister of National Defense, with guardianship powers delegated to the central director of military health services. Its main headquarters is located in the capital, with the possibility of opening extensions across various states of the country.
The pharmacy’s tasks are to ensure the regular supply of military hospitals and various military health structures with pharmaceutical materials and medical supplies, in addition to monitoring the quality of acquired or manufactured products, whether through its own structures or in coordination with accredited national oversight bodies.
The decree also allows the institution to produce some medicines and medical supplies on its own, which contributes to reducing dependence on imports, in addition to managing and possessing pharmaceutical stocks for the benefit of the Ministry of National Defense and updating its databases periodically.
On the scientific and technical side, the Central Pharmacy was charged with contributing to the development of scientific research in the field of pharmacy, in addition to supervising the continuous training and improving the efficiency of military and civilian employees working in this field. The law also authorized it to establish cooperation and partnerships with national and foreign institutions and institutes, in accordance with the organization in force within the Ministry of National Defense, to keep pace with the latest developments in military pharmacy.
