A frightening increase in the number of traffic accident victims during Ramadan – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryia

Lieutenant Colonel Kouider Khadim, Commander of the Traffic Information and Coordination Center led by the National Gendarmerie, revealed that the center counted, through the competence of the National Gendarmerie, which covers 85 percent of road networks, the deaths of 217 people and the injury of 1,003 others during the past month of Ramadan.
Lieutenant Colonel Khadim Qweider said in an interview with the national radio today, Sunday, that these numbers are frightening, as an increase in the number of traffic accidents was recorded by 34 percent, while the death toll increased by 7 percent and by 23 percent in the number of injured compared to Ramadan 1443.
And the main cause of traffic accidents, according to Lieutenant Colonel Quwaider Khadim, remains the human element through excessive speed and failure to reduce speed in turns and slopes, as well as pedestrians crossing the road without caution, only to come in the end to the vehicle and the surroundings.
The commander of the Traffic Information and Coordination Center said that the National Gendarmerie Command carried out several awareness campaigns for the benefit of road users, especially during the month of Ramadan, under the slogan “For a safe Ramadan… drive with caution,” in coordination with all active partners, in addition to awareness campaigns with the National Security Directorate, as well as Deterrent campaigns for violators of traffic laws.
Lieutenant Colonel Khadim pointed out the importance of the My Road page, which is supervised by a staff from the National Gendarmerie 24 hours a day, especially in the field of monitoring the conditions of the road network and putting it at the disposal of the citizen and responding to the inquiries of road users, and the role of the page in explaining traffic laws and raising awareness of the dangers.
The presenter talked about publishing real-time pictures of painful traffic accidents to be a lesson to the citizens and to remind them that vehicles are means of transportation and not a means of suicide and orphan families.
Citizens can – confirms the presenter – submit reports through the Tariqati page about dangerous manoeuvres, behaviors, and even information of any kind by subscribing and sending via “Messenger” pictures, information and videos.
He emphasized that these correspondences are protected and the rest of health subscribers cannot view them except for the staff supervising the page, praising in this regard the reporting culture that enabled the implementation of several operations and stops of shared means of transportation that violated the traffic laws.
The capital occupies the top of the states in the number of traffic accidents with 50 accidents, followed by Bouira with 36 accidents, Ain Defla with 34 accidents, Chlef with 32 accidents, Tebessa with 30 accidents, Tipaza with 30 accidents, Oran with 29 accidents, the states of Boumerdes and Constantine with 22 traffic accidents, then the states of Bejaia. Guelma with 20 traffic accidents, the states of M’sila and Mila with 19 traffic accidents, the states of Sétif and Bordj Bou Arreridj with 18 traffic accidents, the states of Blida and Jijel with 16 traffic accidents, the wilaya of Biskra with 15 traffic accidents, the wilayats of Skikda, Djelfa and Oum El Bouaghi with 13 traffic accidents and the wilayas of Annaba, Medea, Tlemcen and Batna. Recording 12 traffic accidents.
As for the governorate of Sidi Bel Abbes, 11 traffic accidents were recorded, the governorates of Mostaganem and El Tarf, 9 traffic accidents, and the states of Adrar and Ouargla, with 7 traffic accidents. Al-Mughayer and Ain Saleh had four traffic accidents, while Mascara, Bechar, Tissemsilt, Timimoun, Ilizi, Djanet and Al-Muna’a had 3 traffic accidents.
The commander of the Traffic Information and Coordination Center led by the National Gendarmerie concluded by inviting drivers to abide by traffic laws, bearing in mind the slogan “Your family is waiting for you.”
