A former CIA advisor: Washington may lift sanctions on Russia due to its rapprochement with China

Former CIA advisor, James Rickards, expected that the United States would lift sanctions imposed on Russia if Moscow decided to rapprochement with Washington with the aim of confronting China.

This came in an article published by Rickards on The Daily Reckoning platform,

He pointed out that former US President Richard Nixon followed a similar strategy in 1971 in cooperation with China to neutralize Soviet influence.

Considering that the same approach could be applied today to the benefit of the United States in the geopolitical competition with Beijing.

Rickards added that the best policy for the White House is to build a strategic partnership with Russia.

Warning that not doing so and leaving Moscow and China to ally themselves could lead to a loss for the United States,

Pointing out that the end of the war in Ukraine may result in a victory for Russia and the expansion of the horizons of economic and investment cooperation with Washington after the lifting of sanctions.

Rickards considered the major geopolitical powers in the world today

There are only three: the United States, Russia, and China, while the rest of the countries come in secondary or third ranks in terms of importance.
