The army achieves qualitative results in the fight against terrorism and drugs

Within a week, detachments of the People’s National Army were able to eliminate 7 terrorists, arrest 3 support personnel, while 49 drug dealers were arrested and attempts to bring 8 quintals and 22 kilograms of processed kif across the border with Morocco were thwarted.

The Ministry of National Defense explained, in a statement on Wednesday, that within the framework of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the People’s National Army were able to eliminate 7 terrorists and recover 7 Kalashnikov machine pistols, a quantity of ammunition and other items, in Tebessa in the 5th Military Region, while other detachments of the People’s National Army arrested 3 members of support for terrorist groups, during separate operations across the national territory.

In the same context, and within the framework of combating organized crime and continuing the tireless efforts aimed at confronting the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, joint detachments of the People’s National Army were able, following an ambush in Tamanrasset in the 6th Military Region, to eliminate 5 armed smugglers and seize Kalashnikov machine pistols. Other joint detachments of the People’s National Army, in coordination with various security services during operations across the military regions, also arrested 49 drug traffickers. Attempts to bring 8 quintals and 22 kilograms of processed kif across the border with Morocco were thwarted, while 3,712,969 hallucinogenic tablets were seized.

Army detachments also arrested 237 people in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Saleh, In Guezam and Djanet, and seized 35 vehicles, 241 electric generators, 139 pressure hammers, in addition to quantities of a mixture of gold ore and stones and equipment used in illegal gold prospecting operations, while 11 other people were arrested and two machine guns, two submachine guns, and 7 hunting rifles were seized. 78,781 liters of fuel and 6 quintals of tobacco, during separate operations.

On the other hand, coast guards thwarted illegal immigration attempts on the national coast and rescued 111 people who were on board traditional-made boats, while 463 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory.
