A joint road paper to strengthen pharmaceutical sovereignty in Algeria

The Ministry of Health is working to strengthen national pharmaceutical sovereignty by preparing a joint road paper aimed at strengthening cooperation with the Economic Renewal Council in the health field, which contributes to the implementation of promising bilateral projects, improving patient care, and developing the national health system.

According to a ministry statement on Thursday, the Minister of Health, Professor Mohamed Siddiq Ait Messaoudane, received a delegation from the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), headed by Kamal Mawla, in the presence of the President of the National Union of Pharmaceutical Operators (UNOP), Dr. Abderrahim Zuhair Nader.

This meeting was an opportunity to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordination in a way that serves the patient’s interest and enhances the public interest, especially with regard to developing the pharmaceutical industry and improving the availability of medicines and medical supplies.

In this context, the two parties discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of ensuring regular supply of medicines and medical supplies, while emphasizing the importance of encouraging and developing the national pharmaceutical industry by accompanying and encouraging economic operators, which contributes to strengthening national pharmaceutical sovereignty.

The two parties also stressed that the current trend is based on modernizing the national health system and developing it through the integration of modern technologies and improving governance mechanisms, which contributes to improving the quality of health services provided to citizens.

On the other hand, the two parties touched on the pivotal role that prevention plays in reducing the spread of chronic diseases, through intensifying awareness-raising and sensitization campaigns that keep pace with modern technological developments and target various segments of society.

The importance of adopting a proactive approach in the field of acquiring medicines and ensuring their availability was also stressed, as well as in confronting health crises, in a way that enhances the readiness of the health system and its ability to respond to various challenges.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two parties agreed to continue coordination and consultative work by preparing a joint road paper aimed at strengthening cooperation in the health field, which contributes to the implementation of promising bilateral projects, improving patient care, and developing the national health system.
