Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed that his country does not look at the peoples of the region from the perspective of sectarian division between Sunnis and Shiites, stressing that the unifying religion for Muslims is one, which is Islam.
Erdogan’s statements came on Wednesday during a speech he delivered at a meeting of the Justice and Development Party’s parliamentary bloc inside the Turkish Parliament in the capital, Ankara.
The Turkish President said that his country has never looked at the brotherly Iranian people on the basis of sectarian or ethnic affiliation, adding: “We have not and will not differentiate between a Shiite or a Sunni, or between a Turk and a Kurd, and this is our position towards our entire region.”
Erdogan stressed his country’s rejection of any discrimination based on race, sect, religion, language or origin, stressing that Islam is the religion that unites Muslims without divisions.
In a related context, the Turkish President stressed the need to stop the ongoing war against Iran before it expands and pushes the entire Middle East region towards further escalation.
He pointed out that ending the war is possible if diplomacy is given sufficient opportunity, stressing that Ankara is continuing its efforts to bring the conflicting parties back to the negotiating table.
Erdogan explained that Türkiye deals with regional developments with extreme caution to protect its security, stressing that the necessary measures are taken to confront any scenarios that may lead to bloody conflicts or sectarian conflicts in the region.
He also warned against falling into what he described as the “Zionist massacre network,” which, according to him, aims to attack countries and societies against each other.
Erdogan concluded his statements by emphasizing that his country does not seek escalation or adventures, but rather supports stability and peace in the region, while stressing at the same time that Turkey will not hesitate to defend its lands if it is exposed to any threat.
