The new traffic law is the focus of a meeting between the Minister of Interior and transport unions – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Today, Tuesday, the Minister of the Interior, Local Governments and Transport, Said Saioud, discussed with representatives of transport unions in Algeria the latest developments in the draft new traffic law, within the framework of ongoing consultations regarding its review before its final adoption.
The Minister explained, during the meeting that took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, that the discussion about the project comes within the context of the initiative launched by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to open a dialogue with various actors in the sector, with the aim of enriching the legal text and adjusting its articles in line with traffic safety requirements.
Saeed pointed out that 179 articles of the draft law were approved at the level of the National Assembly, with reservations on 11 articles, adding that an equal-member committee was installed and held several meetings to discuss the controversial articles.
The Minister also confirmed that these consultations led to the reformulation of a number of articles of the draft law, with the deletion of some terms, especially those related to criminalization, as part of a comprehensive review aimed at achieving a balance between deterrence and regulating activity in the transportation sector.
