Important decisions of the Council of Ministers – New Algeria

Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, chaired a Council of Ministers meeting devoted to studying a number of important draft laws and proposals, which included a draft law specifying electoral districts and the number of seats in Parliament, in addition to files related to the import of Eid sacrifices, preparations for the Hajj season, combating locusts, and the national youth plan..

The meeting began with a presentation by the Prime Minister on the government’s activity during the last two weeks, before the President of the Republic stressed the necessity of daily and strict field follow-up against speculators in some imported fruits and meat, while including those involved on blacklists and permanently banning them from importing and commercial activity.

Review of the Electoral Districts Law

Regarding the draft law amending the law specifying electoral districts and the number of seats in Parliament, the President of the Republic ordered the draft to be reviewed and the political parties involved in discussing it before approving it in its final form.
It was also decided to form a special committee that will meet at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic to follow up on this file and make a final decision on the number of seats required to be filled in the upcoming legislative elections.

Ceiling the price of imported sacrificial animals

Regarding the progress of the process of importing one million heads of sheep in anticipation of Eid al-Adha 2026, the President of the Republic decided that the selling price of imported sacrificed animals to citizens should not exceed a maximum of 50 thousand Algerian dinars.
He also stressed the need to strictly follow up on the import and marketing process, while besieging all methods of fraud, smuggling and speculation.

Strengthening locust control

The meeting also touched on the situation in combating the spread of locusts, as the President of the Republic ordered doubling the capabilities to confront the locust swarms that threaten agricultural crops in the far south.
He also stressed the use of modern scientific methods, such as aerial spraying with pesticides and activating vigilance cells based on Algerian satellite images, especially in border areas.

A new national plan for youth

In the context of discussing the draft National Youth Plan 2026-2029, the President of the Republic stressed the right of young people to demand their rights, especially in the field of work and care, with the need to protect them from any attempts at exploitation aimed at stabilizing the country.
In this context, the President of the Republic ordered Minister Youth By examining the reasons why some young people do not benefit from the unemployment grant, while preparing new proposals and mechanisms to contribute to reducing unemployment rates.
He also stressed the intensification of efforts to combat drugs among young people and the promotion of school and university sports as an educational space and positive guidance for young people.

Restoring the role of youth

The President of the Republic also directed the necessity of rehabilitating youth homes and opening them according to programs chosen by the youth themselves, at the rate of at least one youth home in each municipality, in addition to doubling youth homes and strengthening coordination between the Ministries of Youth and Culture to attract young people and involve them in cultural and sporting activities.
Measures to adapt to climate change
Regarding the national climate adaptation plan, the President of the Republic ordered doubling laboratories to monitor products imported through ports and airports in coordination between several sectors, and accelerating the treatment of waste water to raise its utilization rate to at least 30 percent.
He also stressed the importance of environmental work as part of the national security system and protecting citizens’ health.

Assignments and termination of tasks

The Cabinet meeting concluded with the approval of decisions that included individual appointments and termination of assignments in a number of senior positions and jobs in the country.
