These are food prices in the second week of Ramadan – New Algeria

The prices of various basic consumer goods witnessed a significant decline in the second week of the holy month, as the prices of all general food items, especially agricultural products, returned to what they were before the month of Ramadan, after recording a slight increase in the first days of the holy month.

The prices of all basic consumer materials and products that are in high demand during the holy month declined in varying proportions in markets and shops in the second week of the holy month of Ramadan, in contrast to what was known in the first days, from a slight increase in some markets to a significant increase in other markets, which is what “elhiwar us” observed in some markets in the capital. In the Farhat Bou Saad market, the prices of various agricultural products recorded a slight decline, which some citizens considered an indication of the return of prices to what they were before the holy month, linking Citizens of this decline led to the arrival of price control and fraud suppression agents to the field to inspect and track prices, the quality of goods and materials offered, and the extent of their compliance with health safety standards.

Speaking of the decline in prices, especially agricultural products, the potato, which is considered the mainstay of the Algerian family table, especially in the month of Ramadan, witnessed a decrease ranging between 5 and 8 dinars, as the price of one kilogram became between 55 and 65 dinars, after the price jumped in the first days to 80 dinars per kilogram, while the price of tomatoes settled at 65 dinars, no more. At the same time, the price jumped in the first days of the holy month to 85. dinars, while the price of fruits decreased in most cases by about 50 dinars compared to what they were in the first week of the aforementioned month. Apples, to mention but not limited to, now cost a kilogram between 300 and 400 dinars in each of the Boumati markets in El Harrach, and also the market of Ali Mellah and Farhat Bou Saad in Sidi M’hamed in the center of the capital, while the price of a kilogram exceeded 500 dinars in the first days of the blessed month, while oranges recorded a slight decline in price. Compared to what it was on the first days of Ramadan.

The decline in prices was linked by the citizens who spoke to “elhiwar us” to the deployment of observation factories to the field since the first day of the month of fasting and prayers on the one hand, and the abundance of agricultural products in contrast to what happened during Ramadan last year of a severe shortage of agricultural products, which caused their prices to witness varying increases on the other hand, while others believe that the decline in prices is subject to supply and demand, and thus, since the various basic materials are available in abundance on the shelves of stores and markets, it is certain that prices will decline. This applies to the current prices of all items that are in high demand and required by the Algerian family’s Ramadan table, while others predicted that prices would continue to decline during the second half of the month of Ramadan.
