Boughali calls for stopping the escalation and returning to dialogue in the Middle East – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

Ibrahim Boughali, President of the Arab Parliamentary Union and President of the National People’s Assembly, confirmed that he is following with great concern the dangerous security developments taking place in the Middle East region, in light of the recent military escalation and its expansion to include Arab countries, after there were positive indicators that tipped the balance in favor of the diplomatic track and dialogue.

A statement on behalf of the Union stated that Boghali expressed his regret over the faltering “Iranian-American” talks hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, which had raised hopes that the region could be spared the dangers of an open military confrontation and its regional and international repercussions.

The Union denounced the prioritization of the logic of force over dialogue, and refused to resort to the military option in dealing with issues that should be resolved peacefully in accordance with the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law, reiterating its commitment to respecting the sovereignty of Arab countries and the sanctity of their territories, and declaring its complete solidarity with them in these circumstances.

The Union also called for an immediate cessation of military actions, exercise of restraint and a spirit of responsibility, and an urgent return to the negotiating table to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in a way that enhances security and stability in the region.
