Algeria is a true tourist treasure – Al-Akhbariya

The American newspaper “Herald” published a lengthy report on Algeria, in which it touched on the touristic elements that make it an attractive destination, describing it as “one of the largest countries in the world and a true treasure” because it hosts seven sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The daily pointed out, in a report accompanied by pictures, the “Mediterranean coast extending over more than 1,000 kilometers,” the Roman ruins that remind of the city of Pompeii, and the vast desert that captivates the mind, adding to its splendor and beauty. It described Algeria as “one of the largest countries in the world and a true treasure” because it hosts seven sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The newspaper took its readers on an enchanting tour rich in heritage through 20 Algerian cities, which it considered “must-visit stations for every passionate traveler.” The report began in the “bahja” city of Algiers, stopping at the Kasbah, which is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, describing it as “a vibrant mass with its ancient Ottoman palaces, ancient courtyards, steadfast mosques, and stairs polished by centuries of footsteps.”

The newspaper added that Algiers is also distinguished by prominent landmarks such as the Church of Our Lady of Africa, the Garden of Experiments in Hamma, the Shrine of the Martyr, and the National Bardo Museum. The author of the report also discussed the city of Constantine and its “suspension bridges” and the Palace of Ahmed Bey with its Andalusian tiles, ornate ceilings, and marble columns.

The article also touched on the “quiet and comfortable” Oran, the second city in Algeria, where Rai music originated, “that raw and hybrid lyrical style resulting from the mixing of traditional Bedouin singing and Andalusian melodies.”

After the city of Annaba, where Saint Augustine lived, the daily moved to both Timgad, “the Roman miracle,” and the Tassili N’Ajjer National Park, which houses one of the most prominent prehistoric rock art complexes in the world, noting that UNESCO included it in 1982 on the list of world cultural and natural heritage, a dual classification that only a very few sites on Earth have achieved.

The American daily did not ignore the other prominent destination, which is Tamangset, the capital of the Hoggar. The newspaper also wrote that Algeria is also Ghardaia and its five palaces, Tlemcen and its Andalusian arts, Djamil (Setif) and its Roman ruins, as well as ancient Tipaza.

The American daily also referred to other cities, such as Skikda or the ancient “Rosicada”, Mostaganem, Jijel and its famous Corniche, Bejaia, known for its national park of Goraya, and Tizi Ouzou, known for its Djurdjara mountain range and its ancient villages that immortalize Berber culture.
