The Ministry of Health confirmed today, Saturday, that the national polio vaccination campaign has achieved great success, recording outstanding coverage rates, while stressing the need to enhance routine vaccination to maintain the gains achieved.

The Ministry’s statement stated that the first phase of the campaign recorded a coverage rate of 95%, followed by 96% in the second phase, and 94% in the third phase, which – according to the statement – reflects a high level of community mobilization and the commitment of health professionals and all intervening partners, considering vaccination a basic pillar of public health protection.

The Ministry stressed the importance of maintaining these results by supporting the routine vaccination program, to ensure sustainable protection of children from preventable diseases, especially measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, viral hepatitis B, and other diseases with serious complications.

She explained that routine vaccination contributes to:

  • Providing continuous and comprehensive protection for children in accordance with the national vaccination calendar.
  • Preventing the re-emergence of pollinable diseases.
  • Maintaining herd immunity.
  • Strengthening national health security.

In light of the international context that is witnessing the return of some infectious diseases, the Ministry called for continued health vigilance as a collective responsibility that requires concerted efforts.

It also sent a call to parents to adhere to the dates of the national vaccination calendar, ensure that their children’s doses are completed, and go to the nearest health facility to make up for any missing doses.
