Al-Nasr Saudi Club, the women’s football branch, celebrated its Brazilian player, Kathleen Souza, after she announced her conversion to the Islamic religion.
Kathleen appeared in a video clip published by the club, shedding tears and hugging her colleagues after officials gave her a special reception.
Al-Nasr Saudi Club’s post said: “We share with our player Kathleen Souza a special moment in her life by declaring her conversion to Islam, asking God for her steadfastness and to fill her heart with reassurance and peace.”
The international defender said: “I was just trying to find the right path and become the best version of myself.”
Souza shared the experience of visiting the Holy Mosque in Mecca with her former colleague, Algerian Lina Bousaha, who transferred to the Saudi club Al-Ittihad this season.
Kathleen Souza Fitosa has a long career in international football, which she started in indoor soccer before obtaining an athletic scholarship in the United States of America from Monroe University in New York.
The Brazilian completed her university education in America, where she was also active in the Louisville teams and then the University of Florida team.
Souza received proposals to conduct experiments in Europe, and landed at the French club Bordeaux in 2018.
I stayed in France for two seasons before professionalizing at Inter, Italy, for two seasons, then Real Madrid, Spain.
At the international level, the Al-Nasr player represented her country, Brazil, for the first time in 2018.
Since then, she has maintained her place in the starting lineup, wearing the yellow jersey during 30 international matches, during which she scored one goal in a friendly match against South Africa in 2022.
